A Note on Remigration

A Note on Remigration
A "truth" from the official White House Truth Social account, December 21, 2025.

As Kevin noted yesterday, the U.S. State Department issued a press release yesterday that concluded: "Our goal is not to `manage' migration, but to foster remigration."

You may recall that the official White House account on Truth Social posted "remigration" as "Words to carry into the new year ✨" (see photo above).

I found this discussion on NPR helpful in understanding the term "remigration." It's a 16-minute listen, but I'll start you off with this intro definition:

"So remigration is a concept that … in its current iteration is traced back to the white nationalist movement in Europe, and it basically means ethnically cleansing traditionally white countries through the organized deportation of non-white people. … [I]t masks a lot of questions … [I]s it referring to only immigrants? Is it referring to specifically immigrants who lack legal permanent status? Does it also apply to children of immigrants? … [T]he definition can … differ somewhat depending on where the discussion is happening."

While we're talking about definitions, I looked for clarification about the meaning of the sparkles emoji used by the White House in its post: ✨. The AI response I got indicates that it:

represents glitter, shine, beauty, magic, or cleanliness. It is widely used to express positive sentiments like happiness, gratitude, and excitement, or to add emphasis and flair to a word or phrase.

That tracks.
