ACLU-NC Immigrants' Rights Staff Attorney

The ACLU of North Carolina is hiring a full-time, term-limited Staff Attorney to advocate for the civil rights of detained immigrants in North Carolina. The Staff Attorney position will be limited to three (3) years and will focus on the constitutional rights of detained immigrants, particularly individuals who will be detained by ICE in a soon-to-be-opened facility in Winton, NC. In collaboration with ACLU-NC colleagues, the Staff Attorney will work to develop and conduct federal and state court litigation and other legal advocacy to defend and enforce the constitutional rights of detained immigrants. The work will likely include litigating habeas petitions and civil rights claims arising from over-detention or illegal detention conditions. Prior experience with civil rights advocacy and the immigration legal system is required, however this prior experience can include work done in a previous, non-attorney capacity, i.e., work as an immigration paralegal, work as an organizer in immigrant communities, or relevant and significant past personal experience with the immigration system. We offer competitive pay and great benefits, as well as a collegial, spirited, and flexible working environment. More details and a link to apply are provided here.
