Another One Bites the Dust: Tracking Sanctuary Jurisdictions
On Halloween, the DOJ announced that Baltimore County (MD) was no longer "a designated sanctuary jurisdiction" and had, in fact, signed a cooperation agreement with ICE. My initial reaction was surprise that this would be announced by the DOJ and not DHS. But the announcement reminded me of something I swear I once knew but entirely forgot: the DOJ publishes a list of sanctuary jurisdictions in accordance with President Donald J. Trump’s executive order titled Protecting American Communities From Criminal Aliens (EO 14287).
As it stands, the official list of sanctuaries is a little smaller today. Still, it includes 12 states and D.C. as well as 3 counties and 18 cities--admittedly with some overlap between those cities/counties and the states.
