Bodycam Video Shows Local Police & ICE Coordination through Signal
My teen just shared this Instagram Reel from investigative journalist Kelly Wiley. The footage is from May 1, 2026, and it shows the traffic stop and arrest of an Austin, TX, area high schooler named Luis Fernando Cabrera Chavarria.
The trooper who pulls Cabrera over takes a photo of his school ID card and shares it with ICE via the app Signal. The response? "Detain." The trooper placed Cabrera in handcuffs and ten minutes later ICE came for the young man.
This is an amazing clip to share with your students to show the level and mechanics of coordination between local law enforcement and ICE.
By the by, Cabrera remained in immigration detention for nearly a month before being released.
