Census proposes to stop counting undocumented immigrants for House seats
Wow! USA Today reports that the Trump administration is proposing to stop counting immigrants without lawful permanent residency status in Census 2030. The Census, of course, determines state representation in Congress and allocation of federal funds.
The census is also considering asking about each person's citizenship and removing questions about race, ethnicity and sexual orientation from its short-form questionnaire. "The stated purpose would be to encourage more people to fill out the forms without fear of having their privacy violated."
The Commerce Department is seeking comment on the proposals for 30 days.
"The Supreme Court blocked the addition of a citizenship question during President Donald Trump's first term."
We will hear much more on the Census proposals no doubt.
