Conference, Human Rights and Local Resistance: From Criminalization of Civic Spaces to Action, June 4, 2026, University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School

On behalf of the Bringing Human Rights Home Lawyers Network (BHRH), with support from Northeastern University School of Law, Center for Global Law and Justice, and the Gittis Legal Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, you are invited to join Human Rights and Local Resistance: From Criminalization of Civic Spaces to Action on Thursday, June 4 at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

This annual symposium, to be held in Philadelphia during the nation’s semi-quincentennial, will bring together lawyers, advocates, and public officials to address the criminalization of civic space and suppression of civic engagement, as well as attacks on democratic participation, while equipping participants with practical tools and partnerships to advance human rights protections and strengthen civil rights enforcement on the ground.

The symposium will also deepen cross-jurisdiction learning among local leaders working to integrate human rights frameworks into city and state governance.
