Disappeared in America

Disappeared in America

Today, the Democracy Power Project (DPP) launched Disappeared in America, the first platform of its kind to put names, faces, and stories to the people disappeared, detained, deported, and harmed by the Trump administration's mass deportation agenda. Featured in Newsweek, the site documents the public stories of individuals who were taken from their families and communities.  Disappeared in America features nearly 500 entries documenting people who have been detained, deported, separated from their families, killed or otherwise impacted by federal immigration enforcement. The project will grow as new cases emerge and additional accounts are documented.

The website spotlights through storytelling the groundbreaking work of the
Illinois Accountability Commission: how one state investigated federal immigration enforcement, what it found, and how it moved to hold the U.S. government to account. The platform features an animated short film telling the story of Ofelia Torres, a teenager battling cancer who was separated from her father after he was detained by immigration authorities.
