DJT Administration Looks to Cancel Funds Congress Appropriated for Refugees
CNN among other outlets is reporting that the Trump Administration is looking to cancel $810 million of Congressionally appropriated funding for refugees, immigrants, and other services the administration has deemed unnecessary.
The Department of Health and Human Services is facing the biggest cut – $567 million designated for "the Refugee and Entrant Assistance account, which funds Office of Refugee Resettlement programs under HHS." The White House says that the ORR is “overfunded” as "Trump’s border policies have curbed border crossings."
Other cuts include: $15 million that had been slated for ICE's Alternatives to Detention-Case Management Pilot Program as well as $10 million that had been heading to USCIS for its "Integration grant program meant to help lawful permanent residents learn English and about US history on their way to becoming US citizens."
