ICYMI: US Withdraws from Int'l Conventions, Orgs
With all eyes on MN, you may have missed President Trump's January 7 memo: Withdrawing the United States from International Organizations, Conventions, and Treaties that Are Contrary to the Interests of the United States. Here are just a few:
- Education Cannot Wait (financing education during emergencies and protracted crises within the United Nations)
- Freedom Online Coalition (supporting "free expression, association, assembly, and privacy online – worldwide")
- Global Forum on Migration and Development
- International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance
- International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law
- UN's International Law Commission
- UN's Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children
These and many others are, according to our president, "contrary to the interests of the United States."
