Interactive Wash Post Opinion Piece on H1-B Visas: 'Which Skilled Immigrants Does America Need?'
Youyou Zhou, a graphics reporter at the Opinions desk of the Washington Post has an interesting interactive opinion piece out today that traces how H-1B visas will be selected after DHS transitions to a "weighted lottery" that will preference workers with higher levels of skills and who earn higher wages. Check it out here.
The interactive tool allows you to think about how you would prioritize if you were to design your own employment-based system with limited lottery slots. You can drag on common listed priorities to create a ranked list.
For all you immprofs out there, this would make a great discussion tool for a class discussion. Once you are done ranking your priorities the tool tells you how your H-1B priorities compare to those selected by the actual lottery between 2022 and 2024 on a range of metrics.
