As Kevin pointed out just days ago, there has been a fair bit of negative reporting about the immigration detention center in Dilley, TX. It follows the heartbreaking ProPublica coverage of the facility, with stories told and illustrated by children in detention.

ProPublica's follow up reports that guards have responded to the children's drawings by taking away art supplies. From kids. Kids who have little else to keep them occupied during detention.

Parents who spoke with ProPublica also reported losing access to email as well as "stepped up searches, seizures and restrictions on communications" with guards hanging about "within earshot during detainees’ video calls to relatives and reporters."

CoreCivic denies these reports, and ProPublica included that denial in their latest article concerning Dilley.

DHS, too, has spoken out to "correct[] the record" on Dilley. Their press release begins by blaming the parents of children in detention: "Being in detention is a choice, we encourage all parents illegally in the country to take control of their departure by using the CBP Home app to receive a free flight home and $2,600." The press release continues: "Children have access to teachers, classrooms, and curriculum booklets for math, reading, and spelling. They have access to age-appropriate books, toys, and outdoor activities. All of this is generously funded by the U.S. taxpayer."
