NBC News: New international student enrollment fell sharply this year
The Trump administration's immigration focus is having an impact on the enrollment of international students. NBC News reports on a development that is not surprising: International student enrollment rates at U.S. colleges and universities fell sharply this year, as prospective students are caught up in the Trump administration’s many immigration restrictions. New international student enrollment declined by 17% in fall 2025, the largest nonpandemic decline in the last 11 years, according to data released by the Institute of International Education. This figure comes on the heels of a 7% drop in new international enrollees in the 2024-25 academic year.
