Apparently even my university paper doesn't offer a reprieve from horrifying immigration news. OU Daily reports--admittedly on the basis of an X post by an OU prof--that Vahid Abedini, an Iranian Studies professor, was arrested by ICE at the OKC airport on Saturday. Abedini was on his way to a conference of the Middle East Studies Association.

Abedini holds an H-1B visa and the basis for his detention is currently unknown.

Needless to say, I'll be keeping tabs on this developing story.

** UPDATE ** Tuesday Nov. 25, 2025 1:45 PM. Local news is reporting that Abedini has been released from custody. Why he was detained is still unknown.
