Questionable White House Post on Cinco de Mayo
As this USA Today story reports, not all persons of Mexican ancestry celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I do not for reasons that will become apparent in this post.
Racial sensitivity often is elusive as many non-Mexicans celebrate the holiday with alcohol and taco bowls. "As Cinco de Mayo celebrations become institutionalized into a beer- and tequila-drinking holiday on the level of St. Patrick's Day, there are plenty of reminders to people to avoid racially-insensitive costumes and imagery while indulging in Mexican fare."
News apparently has been slow in reaching the White House. Already provoking commentary, the White House today posted this to honor Cinco De Mayo

I think it goes without saying that not all Latina/os are undocumented and not all undocumented immigrants are Latina/os. There are many assumptions built into the post based on stereotpes and racism.
