Supreme Court to Hear Arguments In Case Involving the Rights of Asylum Seekers at the U.S.-Mexico Border

Amy Howe for SCOTUSBlog previews the oral arguments before the Supreme Court next week in a challenge to the government’s policy of systematically turning back asylum seekers before they can reach the U.S. border with Mexico. Although the policy at the center of Noem v. Al Otro Lado is no longer in place, the Trump administration calls it a “critical tool" for responding to surges in border crossings. Challengers respond that the policy is contrary to federal immigration law and, when it was in effect, “created a humanitarian crisis in Mexico.”
