Sweden Leads Continent in Deporting Brits
The UK's withdrawal from the European Union ("Brexit") has had migration consequences for Brits living abroad in other European countries.
Sweden has the unique distinction of topping the leaderboard when it comes to deporting UK nationals. They have removed 2,490 UK nationals, a figure that amounts 33% of all Brits deported across Europe. Take a minute to guess what country you think came in second. That would be the Netherlands with 2,270 deportations of UK nationals.
The Guardian reports on "vulnerable" Brits slated for deportation from Sweden– including an elderly man with dementia, an elderly widow, children, a woman aged 95, and a man in his 30s who moved to Sweden at the age of 10. Many of the individuals highlighted in the article were long-term residents with more than two decades in Sweden.
The paper also reports about a British man (and "former business director from Cambridge") married to a Swede who was taken into immigration custody due to fears of his absconding.
