Masked ICE Officers Question Actress Elaine Miles (Northern Exposure) Over Tribal ID

I missed this immigration story from late last year. As Newsweek and many media outlets reported, Northern Exposure television series actress Elaine Miles (Marilyn Whirlwind on the series) said she was stopped and detained by U.S. immigration officers who allegedly said her tribal identification was “fake." Miles is Native American. She said "in a now-deleted Facebook post that the incident occurred as she was walking to a bus stop near the Bear Creek Village shopping centre in Redmond, Washington, according to The Seattle Times."

“On November 3, ICE was conducting targeted immigration enforcement traffic stops and encountered Elaine Miles while investigating a vehicle registered to an illegal alien. She was never arrested. Any claim that ICE questioned her tribal ID are FALSE. ICE agents are trained to recognize tribal IDs and accept them as proof of status," Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Newsweek.

As an aside, I enjoyed the light-hearted and good-natured Northern Exposure show, which had quite a run (6 seasons, 1990-95).
