Webinar on No Justice in the Shadows by Alina Das, Sept. 16, 2026

Join the Kennedy Human Rights Board and Leadership Council Book Club Conversation on September 16th at 12 pm ET/ 9 am PT.  The event will feature Alina Das, lawyer and professor at NYU, with her book No Justice in the Shadows: How America Criminalizes Immigrants.

The conversation will be moderated by Anthony Enriquez, VP of U.S. Advocacy and Litigation at Kennedy Human Rights Center.

In No Justice in the Shadows, Das examines the United States’ “deportation machine,” in which most arrests target people with a criminal record, so-called “criminal aliens,” even though the majority of these offenses are immigration-, drug-, or traffic-related. These individuals are uprooted and banished from their homes, families, and communities.

Through the stories of those caught in the system, Das traces the troubled history of immigration policy, revealing how the U.S. constructed the idea of the “criminal alien” and divided immigrants into categories of “good” and “bad,” “deserving” and “undeserving.” As Das argues, confronting the cruelty of this system is essential to building an inclusive immigration policy grounded in human dignity, and finally breaking the cycle.
