White House Fear-mongering Re Noncitizen Voting

White House Fear-mongering Re Noncitizen Voting

I found myself scrolling through the official White House feed on Truth Social – as one does – when I came across this post from earlier today:

Check out the second bullet point which is, admittedly, hard to read given the font color choice: "DHS found 250,000+ illegal aliens on voter rolls..."

Note the framing here. The emphasis is on voter rolls, not on voting. That's because the threat of noncitizen voting has been debunked over and over again. See, e.g. this AIC publication, this MPI publication, this from the Bipartisan Policy Center, this from the fair elections center, this from the Brennan Center, and this from CATO, among others.

But even taking the issue at face value, the states implicated have indicated they've no idea where the 250K number comes from. As NPR reports, the agency behind the 250K figure, DHS, is having trouble supporting it. When Nevada pushed back on a figure of 16,000 registered noncitizen voters, DHS came back with just 185 names.

Just another example of the post-fact world we are currently living in.
