Your Mother's Day Reading: The Pregnant Women in Custody Act
Late last month, Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (Dem-CA) introduced a bill she calls the Pregnant Women in Custody Act. The bill aims to collect data, prioritize family unity, ensure access to appropriate services and programs, and prohibit "restrictive housing" for incarcerated women who are pregnant, in labor, and postpartum. The bill would cover women held by the BOP, CBP, ICE, ORR, and DHHS.
You'd think with all the pro-natalist in the Trump Administration that this Act would be an easy pass. I highly doubt it. The natalists only want U.S. citizens to churn out kids.
Reading about Kamlager-Dove's prompts me to remind y'all that the Women's Refugee Commission has a "Detention Pregnancy Tracker" that documents the treatment of pregnant women in immigration detention.
