The dissents miss aspects of US migration and citizenship. The majority gets most of it right but their understanding of citizenship for different groups doesn’t explain the relational nature of that status historically—perhaps because they are focused on answering a narrow legal question. Or maybe because the justices don’t know the broader history of citizenship and migration."
